Streak Ends on Unearned Run

March 18, 2003

Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Cliffanie Ingram doubled home Candice Hithe, who had reached on an error, in the bottom of the third inning for the game's only run as UAB snapped Samford's seven game winning streak 1-0 Tuesday night at George Ward Park.

Hithe reached base on a throwing error with out one in the third inning and moved to second base on the wild throw. One out later, Ingram laced a double to left field on a 2-0 pitch to give UAB's Kelli Thompson all the run support she would need to improve to 6-3 on the season. The Blazers improved to 16-12 on the year.

Samford (14-7) had its best opportunity to score in the fifth inning. Angela Bednark led off the inning with a walk. Erin Hall bunted into a fielder's choice in front of a bunt single by Trisha Holman that was the Bulldogs only hit of the night. One out later, Deanna Resmondo drew a walk to load with bases with two out. Sarah Godfrey was called out on a questionable third strike on a letter-high change up to end the rally.

Thompson pitched seven scoreless innings giving up one hit and walking four batters. She struck out nine. Erin Landsburg took the loss for the Bulldogs to drop to 6-3 on the year. She pitched six strong innings giving up six hits and just the one unearned run. She fanned five Blazers.

The Bulldogs will return home where they are 7-0 this season to open up Atlantic Sun Conference play against Jacksonville on Sunday at 2 p.m.
