Georgia State Rallies to Defeat Women's Basketball, 64-52

ATLANTA - Evita Rogers scored 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field to Georgia State to the outright Atlantic Sun Conference North Division championship with a 64-52 win over Samford Tuesday at the GSU Sports Arena.

Rogers, who played in her 116th career game, has now appeared in more contests than any other player--male or female--in Georgia State history. Noot Pittman led Samford scoring 13 points while Chelsee Insell added 12 points and Lindsey Harris chipped in 11 points. Patechia Hartman scored a game-high 21 points while Holly Coates added 10 points.

Georgia State (16-10, 11-4) fell behind by five points twice early in the game before taking its first lead, 13-12, with 11:26 left in the first half. The hosts led by three points on two occasions within the last 10 minutes before Samford (6-20, 2-13) regained the advantage, taking a pair of three-point leads. At halftime, the Bulldogs led, 28-27.

GSU scored the first two points of the second half to take a 29-28 lead but the guests came back and led, 36-31, with 17:24 remaining in the contest. With just under 15 minutes to go, the Lady Panthers went ahead, 40-38, and never trailed again. Georgia State's biggest lead came at 59-46 at the 2:52 mark.

Georgia State shot 67 percent from the floor in the second half and finished at 51.1 percent. Samford committed 20 turnovers and shot 44 percent in the game. The Bulldogs took the 28-27 lead into the locker room after shooting 50 percent in the first half.

The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season when they travel to instate rival Jacksonville State at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
