BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- - Erin Landsburg threw a three-hit shutout as Samford defeated Stetson 2-0 in the night cap to split an Atlantic Sun double header Friday night at Bulldog Field. Stetson took the first game 5-3.

Landsburg improved to 11-7 on the year tossing seven innings giving up two walks and striking out five. The Bulldogs (22-13, 8-6 A-Sun) provided her all the run support she needed in the third inning as Trisha Holman led off with a walk. Landsburg sacrificed her to second where she scored on a RBI-single up the middle by Sarah Godfrey. Samford added an insurance run in the sixth, Michelle Wright walked to lead off, moved to second on a passed ball, was sacrificed to third, and scored on a RBI single by Deanna Resmondo.

Stetson (29-7, 9-3 A-Sun) threatened in the top of the sixth as back-to-back Samford errors put runs at first and third with no one out. Landsburg got Carrie Cruit to hit into a fielder's choice, Blake Hoorelbeke to ground to short, and struck out Alison Parker looking to preserve her fourth shutout of the season. Landsburg did not allow a hit after the third inning.

In the first game, Stetson's Emily Harris hit the second pitch of the game over the right field fence for her third home run of the season. The Hatters took a 3-0 lead in the third on a two-run home run by Holly Burris.

Samford scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third as Wright came through with a two-out single to score Bridgett Smith and Abi Casillo. The two RBI gave Wright 29 RBI on the season tying the Samford school record set by Juliet Shunnarah in 2000.

Stetson scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to take a 5-2 lead. Lacey Prince had an RBI-single in the fifth and Cruit hit an RBI-double in the seventh. Samford's Angela Bednark hit a lead-off home run to right field in the bottom of the seventh to provide the final score. It was Bednark's sixth home run of the season.

Hoorelbeke picked up the win in the first game to move to 20-2 on the season while Emilee Lewis took the loss for Samford dropping to 8-4.

Samford will be on the road on Tuesday to face Belmont in a 2 p.m. double header in Nashville, Tenn.
