Samford football player Charles Williams died in a car accident Friday afternoon in Birmingham. Williams, a junior defensive back, prepped at Tarrant High School right outside of Birmingham.

"This is a sad day for the Samford football family," head football coach Bill Gray said. "Charles was a fine person to be around. He was a true student-athlete on and off the field. Our prayers are with his family."

Williams, 21, is the son of Ralph and Minnie Williams. More details will be released at a later time.
