Samford Hires Firesheets as Director of Broadcasting

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford University Director of Athletics Bob Roller announced the hiring of Justin Firesheets as the schools first Director of Broadcasting. He will be the "Voice of the Bulldogs" for all Samford broadcasts this season.

Firesheets will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation of all radio, TV, and internet broadcasts. He also manages and coordinates the behind the scenes production of all Samford broadcasts.

Firesheets, a graduate of Samford, has spent the last two seasons as the studio host for Samford football and basketball broadcasts. He was the play-by-play voice for women's basketball and baseball last season. In recent years, he has spent time with Radio Alabama, WJOX-AM 690 and WBRC-TV in Birmingham, and Turner Entertainment in Atlanta.

In 2001, Firesheets received his first of several journalism awards. He was recognized by the Alabama Associated Press Broadcasters' Association [AAPBA] and the Southeastern Journalism Conference [SEJC]. He also was named the 2001 College Sportscaster of the Year by the AAPBA and the 2002 Best College Television Journalist by the SEJC.

Firesheets will be joined in the football booth this season by Lee Frazier, a 1993 Samford graduate. Frazier played football for the Bulldogs from 1988-1991. He earned a law degree from Miles College in 2001. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Birmingham Western Area YMCA. Frazier also serves on the board for the Birmingham Historical Preservation Authority. Currently, Frazier hosts The Relationship Show, a weekly radio show that focuses on developing positive personal relationships.
