Bulldog Soccer Defeats Georgia Southern, 1-0, In Double Overtime

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior midfielder Kelly Christoffer scored on a header off an assist from Heidi Kearns less than a minute into the second overtime period to give the Samford women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Georgia Southern in the first match of the UAB Nike Classic Friday night.

Christoffer's goal, her first of the season, came at the 100:41 mark in the contest, after the two teams had fought to a scoreless tie through all of regulation and the first 10-minute overtime period.

The win improves Samford's record to 3-1-1 on the season, while Georgia Southern drops to 2-2 with the loss.

In the match, Samford out-shot Georgia Southern, 13-7. Samford held the edge in corner kicks, 6-5, and Samford committed 17 fouls to Georgia Southern's 12.

Samford goalkeeper Crystal Royall saved three shots while keeping the Eagles scoreless throughout the match. Georgia Southern's Tanya Woehr saved three shots, while surrendering the one goal.

The UAB Nike Classic will conclude on Sunday, September 14. On the tournament's final day, Samford will take on the South Alabama Jaguars at 12:00 p.m.
