Volleyball Drops Night Cap to Ga. State

ATLANTA, Ga. - Fresh off the first win the season, the Samford volleyball team tried to make it two in a row against former Atlantic Sun rival Georgia State. However, the Panthers moved to 7-0 on the season taking the match 3-1 and dropping the Bulldogs to 1-4 on the season.

Alyssa Whitehead recorded her first double-double of the season posting 18 kills and 12 digs to lead Samford. Hilary Gary added 16 kills while Kristin Berryman chipped in 11 kills.

Georgia State placed four players in double figure kills. Amanda Sapp had 16 kills while Ana Paula Ferreira had 14 kills. Shelbylynn McBride and Molly Sapp had 10 kills a piece. GSU won the blocking battle 14-8 and both teams had five service aces.

Samford will face South Alabama and Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday to conclude the tournament. The Bulldogs face USA at 3 p.m. and VCU at 7 p.m. Both times are EST.
