Volleyball Splits Pair In Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Samford volleyball team dropped a four game match to South Alabama and bounced back with a five game victory over VCU to finish the Georgia State Invitational with a 2-2 mark.

Samford (2-5) droopped the opening match to South Alabama 24-30, 30-28, 30-25, and 30-24. Hilary Gary led the Bulldogs with 18 kills while Alyssa Whitehead and Kristin Berryman each had 13 kills.

The Bulldogs bounced back in the final match of tournament to beat VCU 30-27, 26-30, 30-28, 25-30, and 15-9. Whitehead had 25 kills and 21 digs for her second double-double of the season. Gary had 20 kills and Berryman added 11 kills. Freshman Callaway Logan had a career-high 27 digs for the Bulldogs.

Samford will play its first home matches of the season next weekend as it hosts Western Carolina, South Alabama, and UAB in the Union State Bank/Samford Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
