SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford and Wofford played for 110 minutes and finished right were they started, tied 0-0, in a hard fought soccer match at Wofford Sunday afternoon.

Samford (2-1-1) out-shot Wofford (1-1-1) 13-11 and led in corner kicks 6-4 including four in the overtime periods put could not put one past Austin Somers who made six saves for her second straight shutout. Samford's Crystal Royall was equally impressive also making six saves for her first full shutout of the season. The Bulldog defense has allowed just two goals in their first four matches this season. However, the offense has not scored a goal in the last 243 minutes of play after scoring seven goals in their first three halves of the season.

"I am proud of the effort, we played hard and controlled the run of play," said Samford head coach Todd Yelton. "It is frustrating that we could not get a goal but to Wofford's credit, they cleared four balls of the line. We just have to do a better job of finishing."

The Bulldogs' first chance came in the 55th minute as Lindsay Shanks broke in on the Terrier goal keeper, she eluded the sliding keeper but pushed her shot wide of the net. In the 80th minute Sara Geiger's shot was cleared of the goal-line by a Wofford defender. In the overtime, Kim Matthews ripped a shot that also beat the goal keeper but was cleared by a defender.

Wofford had few quality scoring chances, their best at the end of regulation off a corner kick, that crossed in front of the Samford goal, but no Terrier could get a head to it.

Samford was whistled off sides a season-high nine times as Wofford used an effective off-side trap against the faster Bulldogs. Samford also committed 16 fould to just nine for the Terriers.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday at the UAB Classic. Samford will face Georgia Southern at 5 p.m.
