Women's Basketball Plays Host To Morehead State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University women's basketball team will play host to Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State on Thursday.

Samford comes into the game with a record of 8-7 overall and 1-3 in the OVC after winning at home over Alabama State, 61-59, on Monday. Morehead State enters the contest with a record of 5-10 overall and 2-2 in conference play. MSU is coming off a 78-62 loss to Austin Peay on Saturday.

Thursday's game will mark the third all-time meeting between Samford and Morehead State in women's basketball. The series is currently tied, 1-1. Both previous meetings have come in regular season tournaments. The first meeting came on Nov. 21, 1997 in the Liberty Classic in Lynchburg, Va., with MSU winning, 81-74. The second meeting was last season, with Samford winning, 71-58, in the Eastern Kentucky Classic in Richmond, Ky.

Samford is led in scoring by freshman forward Alex Munday, as she is averaging 14.7 points per game. Munday is tied with sophomore guard Chelsee Insell for the team lead in rebounding, with both pulling down 6.1 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Cora Beth Smith is leading the team in assists with 46.
