BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford men's and women's track and field team begins the 2004 indoor season this weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet in Lexington, Ky. The meet begins Friday night with six events and continues all day Saturday, at the Nutter Field House.
"It is going to be a great way to find out where we are right now," Head Coach Glenn McWaters said. "All the athletes seem to be in good shape and hopefully this will be a good introduction to the season."
The Bulldogs will hope to use their strength in distance to help finish near the top against a competitive field. The distance runners propelled the Bulldogs to second place in the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Cross Country Championships and third place in the men's championship. Freshman Lauren Blankenship finished second overall and will run her first-ever track meet this weekend.
"This will be Lauren's first time running track and it will be interesting to see how she reacts," McWaters said. "As for the rest of the team it will be a chance to see how they are running compared to the rest of the field."
