Bulldogs Look To Continue Winning Ways At UT-Martin

Oct. 2, 2004

MARTIN, Tenn. - The Samford University soccer team will attempt to complete an Ohio Valley Conference weekend sweep on Sunday as the Bulldogs conclude their rigorous two-match road trip against the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks at 2 p.m.

Samford (3-4-0, 2-0-0 OVC) heads into Sunday's critical conference matchup with a full head of steam after posting its third-consecutive victory on Friday with a conclusive 3-0 shutout win at Murray State.

In the victory, freshmen Bulldogs Rebecca Bohler and Heather Birdsell scored the first goals of their collegiate careers and junior forward Marian Wagner notched her first score of the 2004 campaign. Prior to Friday's resounding win, Samford totaled four goals on the season.

Tennessee-Martin (2-6-2, 0-2-0) enters Sunday's contest looking to pick up its first victory since Sept. 12. After earning a slight 2-1 win against Alcorn State, the Skyhawks were stunned by Morehead State, 4-1, tied Arkansas-Little Rock, 0-0, and were then defeated by Jacksonville State, 1-0, on Friday.

Last season, in the first meeting between the OVC foes, Samford registered a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime win at Bulldog Field in Birmingham, Ala.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action on Sunday as the Bulldogs conclude their weekend-long OVC road trip with a matchup against the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks at 2 p.m., in Martin, Tenn.
