BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University volleyball team defeated Austin Peay, 3-2, in a five-game conference match on Saturday at Seibert Hall. Match scores were as follows: 32-30, 30-20, 30-19, 30-28, 20-18. On Samford's offensive side, Hilary Gary posted a game-high of 25 kills with an attack percentage of .265, while on the defense Eileen Hatfield recorded 24 digs.
The Bulldogs were determined to bring the weekend around, after their lost to Tennessee Tech on yesterday (Oct. 22). The Bulldogs fought hard and finished game one with the win, 32-30. Samford recorded a game high of 22 kills, eight errors and 47 total attacks with an attack percentage of .298.
Austin Peay dominated game two and finished with the win, 30-20. The Lady Govs recorded a game-high of 18 kills, four errors and 45 total attacks with an attack percentage of .311, while Samford wasn't far behind with 15 kills, seven errors and 45 total attacks with an attack percentage of .178.
The Lady Govs held on strong and finished game three with the win, 30-19. Austin Peay recorded 15 kills, six errors and 36 total attacks with an attack percentage of .250, while the Bulldogs fell due to errors, after recording only ten kills, ten errors and 41 total attacks with a low-attack percentage of .000.
After the ten-minute intermission between games three and four, the Bulldogs came back strong with a capture of game four, 30-28. This game remained neck-to-neck throughout with the Bulldogs prevailing as the winner with 18 kills, nine errors and 57 total attacks with an attack percentage of .158.
The Bulldogs took game five, 20-18 and finished with the match win. As both teams fought tooth-and-nail to capture the match, Samford prevailed as the winner with eight kills, five errors and 35 total attacks with an attack percentage of .086.
The Bulldogs recorded 11 total-team blocks, 14 block assists, 73 kills, 39 errors and 225 total attacks with an attack percentage .151, while the Lady Govs recorded nine total-team blocks, 16 block assists, 80 kills, 34 errors, 230 total attacks with an attack percentage of .200.
Along with team leaders Gary and Hatfield, Calloway Logan recorded 14 kills with a team-high attack percentage of .344, Kristin Berryman posted 13 kills, Angela Dempski recorded 11 kills, while Allison Pickett finished the match with a total of 31 assists, while Abby Sites posted 29.
The Bulldogs will host EKU and Morehead State next weekend (Friday-Saturday, Oct. 29-30) at Seibert Hall in Birmingham, Ala. Friday's match is set to begin at 6 p.m., while Saturday's match will start at noon.
