BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford University basketball team will hold its annual Red-Blue Scrimmage this Saturday at 9 a.m., announced Head Coach Jimmy Tillette on Wednesday. The simulated game action is open to the public and free of charge.
The scrimmage is a part of Saturday's 2004 Homecoming activities at Seibert Hall and is expected to last until approximately 10:00 a.m.
Samford's 2004 Red-Blue Scrimmage will be the Bulldogs' first public appearance of the season. Last year, Samford registered a 12-16 overall record and advanced to its sixth-consecutive postseason tournament.
The Bulldogs return 11 players from last season's team, including two starters in junior forward J. Robert Merritt and sophomore point guard Jerry Smith. Samford also returns a talented senior class comprised of Bryan Boerjan, Beau Green, Josh Hare and Jon Mills.
Saturday's Homecoming athletic events will begin at 8 a.m., with the women's basketball Red-Blue Scrimmage, followed by the men's competition at 9 a.m. The volleyball team will then host Morehead State in an Ohio Valley Conference match at noon and the football team will challenge Tennessee Tech at Seibert Stadium beginning at 2 p.m.
