BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford University women's basketball team will open the 2004-05 regular season when the Bulldogs play host to the Jacksonville Dolphins Friday night at Seibert Hall.
Samford returns its leading scorer and rebounder, sophomore forward Alex Munday. Munday was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Freshman of the Year last season, and she averaged 14.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
The captains of the 2004-05 Bulldog squad are senior guard LaBrena Friend, senior guard Sarah Clement and junior guard Chelsee Insell. Insell, who was the team's second-leading scorer and rebounder last season, is out for the season after a preseason injury.
Samford played one exhibition game in the preseason, defeating Montevallo, 55-43. Jacksonville dropped its lone exhibition game, falling to Rollins College by a score of 56-49.
The game will mark the fifth meeting between the two programs, with the teams tied, 2-2. Last season, Samford defeated the Dolphins in Jacksonville, Fla., 64-56.
