The Samford women's basketball team suffered its fifth-straight defeat in a 76-57 loss at OVC member Tennessee Tech Thursday night
After falling behind early, 4-0, Samford (8-12, 1-8 OVC) came back to take a 7-4 lead with 15:09 to go on a basket by Che' Walker. Tennessee Tech (11-9, 6-3 OVC) came back to take the lead back at 10-9 with 13:33 to go on a pair of free throws by Jenna Baltimore. The Bulldogs retook the lead less than a minute later on two free throws by Veronica Pike. Samford held its lead until the 5:05 mark when the Golden Eaglettes took a 20-19 lead on a three-pointer by Arleigh Brackin. The lead went back and forth for the rest of the half with Tennessee Tech taking a 33-32 lead into halftime.
To open the second half, Samford scored five of the first seven points, on a three-pointer and a pair of free throws by Chelsee Insell to take a 37-35 lead with 17:03 left in the game. Tennessee Tech then went on an 8-0 run to take the lead for good at 43-37, with 13:58 left in the game. Samford could get no closer than four points the rest of the way as Tennessee Tech claimed the 76-57 win.
Samford was led by Alex Munday with 13 points and seven rebounds. LaBrena Friend followed with 13 points. Insell and Pike added 10 points each for Samford.
Tennessee Tech was led by Courtney McFarlin with 16 points. Emily Christian scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Kendall Cavin scored 13 points and Brackin added 12.
Samford will return to action on Saturday, when the Bulldogs play at Austin Peay. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
