MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Samford men's tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday against Alabama State and Auburn University at Montgomery. The Bulldogs opened the morning with a 7-0 victory over Alabama State, before dropping the afternoon session to AUM 4-3.

"I am a little disappointed with the way that we played against AUM after a great opening match," Head Coach Kemper Baker said. "We had some chances to close to the door on them and get a victory and we just didn't to that. We need to work on finishing close matches and making that extra effort to win to match. I thought we played really well against Alabama State and I am looking for an effort like that every time."

Against Alabama State, the Bulldogs only surrendered three games the whole match. In doubles all three teams won their matches 8-0. In singles competition Stuart Misner, Ron Nunnery, Johnny Griffee and John Crist all won 6-0, 6-0.

Against AUM, Samford won the doubles point with the team of James Bryce and Johnny Griffee winning 8-6 and Manuel Miletic and Rob Nunnery winning 8-3. In singles Miletic continued to play well winning 7-6, 6-3. Griffee was the only other Bulldog to win a singles match, coming out 6-4, 6-4.

The Bulldogs return to the courts on Tuesday, February 10 to host Ohio Valley Conference rival Jacksonville State, the match begins at 3:00 p.m. at the Darwin C. Hardison Tennis Center.
