BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - This week's Southeastern Temperature Controls Samford Student-Athlete of the Week is freshman Matt Alling. The Vestavia Hills, Ala. native was 6-18 in the series against Toledo and the mid-week game against UAB last week. Alling had eight RBI, including the game winner against the Blazers in the top of the 10th inning.
Against UAB, Alling was 1-5 with a walk and an RBI, which proved to be the game winner. In the first game of the three-game series against Toledo, Alling was 1-4, but drove in four runs in the Bulldogs 12-8 victory. In game two of the series, Alling was 2-5 with an RBI and in the series finale he was 2-4 with an RBI as Samford won the rubber game 5-4.
Alling currently is on a six-game hitting streak, dating back to the Bulldogs game against Nicholls State.
