March 9, 2004

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team announced its postseason awards at the second annual Senior Night Awards Banquet held at the Birmingham Marriott Friday night.

The team's 14 seniors were honored at the banquet. The four-year letterwinners received a watch. The players that lettered three years were given blankets, the two-year letterwinners received jackets and the one-year letterwinners were given a certificate. All 14 seniors received a framed jersey.

The team awards were also given out at the banquet. Rob Shaw was the recipient of the Bobby Bowden Award, and Andy Whaley received the Kenny Morgan Award. Both awards are given annually to a player who has strong character and work ethic, and who has sacrificed for the team. Ty Neil received the Larry Lemak Scholastic Award for the highest GPA. Ross Newton received the "Team Me" Award, voted on by the players. The Special Teams MVP was Chris Hicks, the Offensive MVP was Efrem Hill, and the Defensive MVP was Darold Williams.

The Bulldogs posted a record of 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the OVC last season. After being picked to finish eighth out of nine teams in its inaugural OVC season, Samford finished in a tie for third in the league.
