Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. - Shelley Stanley hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning but that was all of the offense Samford could muster in an 8-1 loss at Eastern Kentucky Saturday afternoon in Ohio Valley Conference softball action.

The series finale began the same way as game two had on Friday night. Eastern Kentucky (27-11, 10-1 OVC) scored four unearned runs in the first inning taking advantage of two Bulldog errors. Eastern scored five unearned runs in the first inning on Friday.

Kelsey Anderson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning to put EKU up 5-0. Stanley answered with her fourth homer of the season over the right field fence in the fourth inning.

Eastern added solo runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Only three of the Colonels runs on the day were earned as the Bulldogs committed three errors defensively.

Kelly Smith went 2-for-3 in the game to extend her hitting streak to seven-straight games. Trisha Holman went 2-for-4 for the Bulldogs who fell to 14-26 on the year and 6-5 in the OVC.

Susanna Meyer took the loss to fall to 9-8. She allowed four unearned runs on three hits. Erin Landsburg pitched 5.1 innings in relief and gave up four runs on five hits. Kindal Kincaid took the win for Eastern to improve to 10-5 on the year.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday for a single game at Jacksonville State. The Bulldogs took two games from JSU last week and will be looking to sweep the season series against the Gamecocks for the first time since 1995. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
