Women's Tennis Wraps up OVC Season with 6-1 Victory over Eastern Illinois

MURRAY, Ky. - The Samford women's tennis team defeated Easter Illinois 6-1 in the Bulldogs Ohio Valley Conference finale of the season. The Bulldogs (13-7, 7-2 OVC) swept the doubles matches and won five-of-six singles matches in the win against the Panthers (6-8, 3-4 OVC).
"This was a good win for us after a tough loss yesterday," Head coach Terri Sisk said. "We have two matches this week and we need to stay focused and carry this momentum with us into the OVC Championships next weekend."
Katie Crawford and Emily Nunnally won their doubles match 9-8 on court one and Jen Pharr and Bethany Benson teamed up for a 8-5 victory on court three. The freshman duo of Sarah McKey and Emily White won 8-0 on court two for the Bulldogs.
Nunnally upped her singles record to 16-4 on the season with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory on court one. White won her match on court three 6-4, 6-2, Pharr won on court five 6-0, 6-4 and Benson won 8-1 on court six. McKey improve to 15-4 overall and 8-1 in the OVC with a 6-4, 6-3 victory on court four.
The Bulldogs host Montevallo on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. and North Alabama on Wednesday at 3:00 in the final regular season matches of the year.
