Men's Golf Tied For Seventh After First Round Of OVC Championships

PADUCAH, Ky. - The Samford men's golf team is currently tied for seventh after the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Golf Championships on Monday.

"We have the potential to shoot well on this course, but we need to be patient," Samford head coach Woodie Eubanks said. "We gave away too many shots today. This is a good conference, and we are honored to be competing for the championship."

As a team, Samford shot a 310, tying the Bulldogs with Eastern Illinois for seventh place. Austin Peay leads the tournament with a 298. Jacksonville State and Murray State are tied for second with a 302.

Individually for Samford, Andy McRae and Reed Davis both tied for 11th overall with a score of 76 (+4). Bradley Pate tied for 24th with a 78 (+6), while Bradley Farmer and Ryan Mayberry both tied for 38th with a first-round score of 80 (+8).

Leading the tournament individually is Drew Alexander of Eastern Kentucky. Alexander shot a 70 (-2) in Monday's opening round.

The three-day, 54-hole event is being held at The Country Club of Paducah, a par-72, 6,915-yard course. Second-round action gets underway at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday with the final round set for Wednesday.
