BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
Senior offensive lineman for the football team Chip Adams and junior forward on the Bulldog soccer team, Lindsay Shanks have each been named to the National Strength and Conditioning Association Strength Coaches All-American Team.
"Both Adams and Shanks provided outstanding leadership in the weight room all year long," Head Coach Thomas Rohling said.
Adams started all 22 games the last two seasons on the offensive line for the Bulldog football team after making the switch from defense. He was one of four captains for the 2003 season and served as the anchor for an offensive line which only gave up 10 sacks in 11 games.
"He has never missed a workout in his four years of school," Rohling said. "There were people who were stronger than Adams, but nobody provided the leadership that he did in the weight room. His work ethic was second to none."
Shanks became Samford's all-time leading goal scorer in 2003 after netting six on the season. She has 24 in her career and served as a team captain. Shanks was named to the Ohio Valley Conference, All-Conference Second Team and helped guide the team to the 2003 Ohio Valley Conference Regular Season Championship.
"She is the best athlete that I have ever been around," Rohling said. "You only have to show her how to do something once and she does it perfect after that. She has improved every year that she has been at Samford and just continues to get stronger all the time."
Winners are chosen based on bench press, squat, 40-yd. dash, 100-yd. dash, vertical jump, powerclean and GPA.
The Bulldogs have had some winners in the past. In 1998 Alvin Garrett and Heidi Sauers were both named to the First-Team and in 1999 Will Daniel and Clarissa Clark were also named to the First-Team
