Women's Tennis Drops First OVC Match of the Year, 4-3, to Tennessee Tech

The Samford women's tennis team lost its first Ohio Valley Conference match, 4-3, to Tennessee Tech (5-7, 3-0 OVC), Friday afternoon in Cookeville, Tenn. The match was tied 3-3 and the Bulldogs (11-5, 6-1) fell a few games short in the third set on court six.
"I am disappointed that we lost the match, but I am not disappointed in the way that we played," Head Coach Terri Sisk said. "We will recover from this and move on to the next match. It would have been nice to go undefeated in the conference, but now we have to refocus and play harder the next time."
The Bulldogs fell behind 1-0 early after being swept in doubles by the Golden Eagles.
Samford rebounded in singles winning three-of-six and falling just short of winning a fourth. Sarah McKey improved to 6-1 in the OVC with a 6-3, 6-3, victory on court four, while Emily White upped her conference mark to 5-2 on court three, with a 6-4, 6-1, win. Jen Pharr did not lose a game winning 6-0, 6-0, on court five to improve her OVC record to 5-1 on the year. Bethany Benson fell just short on court six losing in three sets, 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
The Bulldogs will take on Martin Methodist tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 in Pulaski, Tenn.
