Women's Tennis Falls to UAB, 5-2

April 7, 2004

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's tennis team lost to UAB, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon at Samford. The match was a continuation of an earlier contest which was halted by rain. The Bulldogs (12-6, 6-1 OVC) lost two three-set matches in singles which could have given them their first victory over UAB (10-12, 4-4 C-USA) in over five years.

"They battled hard this afternoon, but just could not finish out their matches," Head coach Terri Sisk said. "That is something that will get better as they mature as college tennis players. We just need to regain our focus for two important matches this weekend."

Emily Nunnally upped her record to 14-3 on the season winning 7-6, 6-4 on court one. Freshman Emily White won the other match for the Bulldogs, losing only three games in a 6-1, 6-2 win on court two. The win raised White's season record to 11-4 at No. 3.

Samford travels to three-time defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Murray State for a pivotal conference match on Friday. The Bulldogs are 6-1 in the OVC and just a half match behind Murray State and Tennessee Tech for the conference led. The match is a double-header with the Samford men and begins at 2:30 p.m.
