Baseball Hosts Jacksonville State In Non-Conference Game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will take on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

Samford enters the game with a record of 15-27 overall and 7-11 in the OVC after sweeping a three-game series with Morehead State over the weekend. Jacksonville State is currently 20-21 overall and 12-6 in the OVC. JSU swept a three-game series from Tennessee Tech last weekend.

Tim Parenton is in his seventh season as Samford's head baseball coach. In his six-plus seasons as the Bulldogs' coach, Parenton has posted a record of 132-235. Prior to coming to Samford in 1998, Parenton was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Mississippi State, from 1996-97. Parenton also served as an assistant coach at Old Dominion from 1990-95, and as a graduate assistant at Mississippi State from 1985-87.

Sophomore right fielder Matt Alling leads the Bulldogs in hitting (.369), hits (58), triples (4), RBI (37) and total bases (84). Richard Bishop leads the team in home runs with seven, while Michael Collins is the team leader in doubles with 15 and runs scored with 33. Stephen Artz and Joseph Edens, both with 4-5 records, share the team lead in wins. Artz also leads the team in strikeouts with 82 and innings pitched with 78.1. Edens leads the team in ERA at 4.05, appearances with 17 and complete games with two.
