Samford Volleyball Loses To Birmingham-Southern, 3-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford volleyball team (1-5) fell to Birmingham-Southern, 3-1, at the BSC Volleyball Tournament on Friday at Bill Battle Coliseum.

In the first game, the Bulldogs fell to the Panthers, 30-21. Samford scored the first two points, while BSC brought on strong offense and defense. The Bulldogs played from behind throughout most of the game, after only recording 12 kills, 11 errors on 48 total attempts with an attack percentage of .021.

In the second game, the Panthers won, 30-16. BSC dominated as the Bulldogs fell behind early, 23-10. Samford struggled to come back, but the Panthers capitalized with 10 kills, seven errors and 37 digs on 37 total attempts. The Bulldogs finished the game with 7 kills, 11 errors, 35 digs and 37 total attempts with a low-attack percentage of -.108.

In the third game, the Bulldogs stepped it up a notch, finishing with the win, 31-29. BSC managed to tie the score more than three times as the Bulldogs kept the score close. The Panthers reduced the deficit and managed to once again tie the score at 29-29. Samford seemed determined to win the game, recording 16 kills, 4 errors, 46 digs and 39 total attempts with an attack percentage of .308.

Both teams seemed eager to win the fourth game, but the Panthers prevailed with a score of 30-19. Samford fell behind early, 15-7, as BSC brought hit the 20-point mark first. Samford finished the game with 10 kills, four errors, 28 total attempts with an attack percentage of .214.

The Bulldogs will continue its competition at the Birmingham-Southern Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 11. Samford will play Troy at 10:30 a.m. and Gardner-Webb at 4:30 p.m.
