Men's Golf Finishes Third Overall At The Buffalo Rock/ Southern Showdown

MCCALLA, Ala. - The Samford University men's golf team competed at the Buffalo Rock/ Southern Showdown on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 20-21). Birmingham-Southern was the hosting school, while the tournament was held at the Brent Brook Course. The Bulldogs finished third overall, while Chattanooga finished first and Belmont finished second. Samford's freshman Andrew Villarreal placed fourth overall individually and was named on the All-Tournament team for the tournament.

"I am really excited," said head coach Woodie Eubanks. "I am truly pleased with the way the guys played at this tournament. They stepped it up on day one and held their own for day two. I have not seen golf played like this since I was a student-athlete at Samford. Now we will concentrate on how to keep our mental game strong as well as work on our game plan for the rest of the season."

To end the tournament, Samford shot a 289 in round three and finished with a tournament total of 862, good for two under par. Chattanooga took the tournament title with a total score of 854 and Belmont finished second (859).

Samford's top finishers were Villarreal with a total of 212, while Reed Davis fired a 215 and Ryan Mayberry shot a 218.

RECAP DAY ONE (Round 1& 2)

The Bulldogs finished the first round in second place (286), shooting two under par, while Belmont placed first (283). After round two, Samford placed third (287), while Belmont finished first (286) and Chattanooga placed second (284).
