DOUG MEACHAM ACCEPTS POSITION AT OKLAHOMA STATE

Jan. 11, 2005

BIRMINGHAM, Ala - Samford offensive coordinator Doug Meacham has accepted a position as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Oklahoma State University. Meacham will coach tight ends at OSU.

"This is a dream come true for me," Meacham said. "This is what everybody works for. We are just so excited to go back home. It's everybody's dream to go back and coach at their alma mater, and I am living a dream now."

Meacham came to Samford in 2001 as the offensive line coach, and he was promoted to offensive coordinator/offensive line coach in 2002. In his time with the team, the Bulldogs have re-written the school's offensive record book. Meacham's 2003 offense set a school record for passing yards with 2,986 and completion percentage at 59.8 percent. His 2004 offense completed a school-record 258 passes.

While at Samford, Meacham also tutored All-American receiver Efrem Hill, who is Samford's all-time leader in receiving yards, touchdown receptions and receptions, and All-OVC quarterback Ray Nelson who leaves Samford as its all-time leader in passing yards and total offense.

"We are proud of Coach Meacham, and we know he is excited to be going back to his alma mater to coach," Samford head coach Bill Gray said. "Anytime a coach on your staff moves up in the coaching ranks, it is a credit to your program. Coach Meacham did a great job and added a lot to our program."

Gray did not give a time-table for naming a new offensive coordinator, but he said the staff would be concentrating on recruiting before naming a successor.
