BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford football team continued its preparation for Saturday's Homecoming Game against Tennessee State with a two-hour workout Wednesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium.
Samford head coach Bill Gray said his team faces a tough challenge in Saturday's game.
"They are a team that I think is gaining momentum," Gray said. "They've answered some questions offensively that they had earlier in the year. They have a tailback (Javarris Williams) that reminds you a lot of what Charles Anthony did for them. He is young, and he is getting his chance to prove himself.
"Defensively, they are very aggressive, and they have great team speed on defense," Gray said. "I thought they played a great game against Jacksonville State. It's a game where we have to protect the football, and make sure that we don't give up the big play. We also have to be consistent on special teams, and if we can do those things, we will have a chance on Saturday."
Gray added that he was pleased with Wednesday's workout.
"The closer we get to the end of the week, the more polished things look in practice," Gray said. "I feel like our guys are practicing with a purpose. We are not as healthy as we would like to be, but this time of year, no one is. I was pleased with the work ethic today."
Samford will practice again on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. Saturday's game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff from Seibert Stadium. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samfordsports.com or www.al.com/wvsu.
