BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford University women's basketball team will hold its annual Red-Blue Scrimmage Saturday morning at Seibert Hall. The scrimmage is open to the public, and is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.
The Bulldogs are coming off a season in which they posted the second-highest win total in program's history. Samford returns three starters (Cora Beth Smith, Veronica Pike and Tish Pilkerton), as well as Alex Munday and Chelsee Insell, the team's top two scorers and rebounders in 2003-04, who missed last season due to injury.
Samford welcomes six freshmen to the 2005-06 squad. The team will play an exhibition game on November 10 at 5:00 p.m. against Alabama-Huntsville, and it opens the regular season on Nov. 18, at Miami at 6:00 p.m.
Saturday's scrimmage is part of Samford's 2005 Homecoming activities. Following the women's scrimmage, the men's basketball team will scrimmage, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Homecoming football game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
