Football Falls On The Road To OVC-Leader EKU, 38-6

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Samford University football team dropped a 38-6 contest against the Ohio Valley Conference-leading Eastern Kentucky Colonels at Roy Kidd Stadium on Saturday.

With the loss, Samford (2-4, 1-2 OVC) fell to 0-4 on the road this season.

For Samford in the game, Jefferson Adcock completed 18-of-41 passes for 203 yards. Ossie Buchannon caught nine passes for 79 yards, and Cortland Finnegan led all tacklers with 13, including six solo stops. Shannon Fleming kicked two field goals to account for all of the Bulldogs' points.

EKU was led by Josh Greco, completing 22-of-32 passes for 301 yards and four touchdowns.

Eastern Kentucky (3-3, 3-0 OVC) struck first on the opening drive of the game. Mark Dunn scored on a two-yard run with 12:41 to go in the first quarter. Taylor Long added the PAT to give the Colonels a 7-0 lead.

The Colonels scored again when Greco hit Patrick Bugg for a two-yard score with 1:17 to go in the second quarter. Long's extra point gave EKU a 14-0 lead. Samford (2-4, 1-2 OVC) got on the board when Fleming kicked a 39-yard field goal with one second left in the half to make the score 14-3 at halftime.

Fleming booted his second field goal of the game, this time from 32-yards out with 11:12 to go in the third quarter to cut EKU's lead to 14-6. Long then nailed a 28-yard field goal with 7:08 to go in the third quarter to make the score 17-6. EKU pushed its lead to 24-6 when Greco hit Andre Ralston for a 48-yard touchdown with 3:29 to go in the third quarter.

EKU stretched its lead to 31-6 with 10:44 to go in the game when Greco hit Bugg for an 11-yard touchdown. The Colonels added a touchdown when Greco hit Lewon Lurry for a 27-yard touchdown with 8:25 to go in the contest. The PAT made the final score 38-6.

Samford will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15, when the Bulldogs play host to Murray State. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff from Seibert Stadium.
