TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ---- The Samford University women's tennis team turned in its best performance of the year this weekend at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic, hosted by the University of Alabama on Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs won 18 matches and lost 12 on the weekend.
"In four years of going to this Alabama tournament, this is the strongest showing we've ever had," said Samford head coach Terri Sisk. "I'm extremely excited about the way we played this weekend; everyone is in shape, excited and ready to play. I've never in my four years of coaching at Samford I've never been this excited about a team. We are solid from one to ten. Our doubles play was great, our singles play was spectacular."
This weekend saw several outstanding individual performances from the Bulldogs over the weekend. Anna Jackson and Katie McMiller picked up a thrilling 8-5 victory over Whitney Eber and Anna Rynarzewska of Florida State on Saturday, and on Friday Jackson notched huge win over Alabama's Natalie McElveen.
Whitnie Warren and Lauren Pitcher triumphed over Memphis's Kristin Noble and Christina Wieser with an 8-5 victory and Christie Baker and Bethany Benson defeated Lauren Wolken and Lindsey Marsh of Georgia Southern 8-4.
Additionally, Benson defeated Stephanie Boucher of Birmingham-Southern, 6-3, 7-6 and Katie Crawford won over Mandy Septoe of AUM.
The Samford women's tennis team will take a week off before heading to Memphis, Tenn., for the University of Memphis Tournament on Oct. 21-23.
