Women's Tennis Sweeps OVC-Rival Eastern Illinois, 7-0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The women's tennis team (3-2, 1-0 OVC) won its first-OVC match of the 2005 season against Eastern Illinois, 7-0. This neutral-site competition was held at the Maryland Farms Athletic Club today (Feb. 26). The Bulldogs gained the doubles point and kept the momentum going for the win.

"I am very excited about the conference win today," said head coach Terri Sisk. "This being our first OVC match of the season we were sort of nervous, but the team performed very well in all aspects. We do have somethings to work on, but I am very pleased with the teams performance and now we will look to correcting any mistakes. GO BULLDOGS!"

In doubles, Samford won two out of three sets to gain the doubles point as Sarah McKey / Emily White and Christie Baker / Katie McMiller teamed up and won 8-5 each. Katie Crawford / Bethany Benson lost the only match against the Panthers, 8-5.

In singles, the Bulldogs swept the Panthers by winning all six sets with McMiller being the only Bulldog to go into a tie breaker.

The Bulldogs will play host to Alabama State on Thursday, March 3 and UT-Martin on Friday, March 4. Both matches will be held at the Darwin C. Hardison Tennis Center, located on the campus of Samford University. Thursday's match is set for 2:30 p.m, while Friday's match will begin a 2 p.m.
