BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University men's and women's tennis teams defeated OVC-rival Tennessee State today (March 11) as both teams posted a final score of 7-0. The match was held at the Darwin C. Hardison Tennis Center, located on the campus of Samford University.
On the women's side, Samford (7-3, 2-1 OVC) gained the doubles point after sweeping Tennessee State, 3-0. With Samford's Emily White / Sarah McKey at court No. 1 and Katie Crawford / Bethany Benson at court No. 2, the Bulldogs finished with a score of 8-0 each. At court No. 3, Samford's Katie McMiller / Christie Baker won by default as Tennessee State could not provide additional players.
In singles, the Bulldogs also finished with all six wins to take the match. At No.1, White defeated Melaney Whiting (6-1, 6-0), while at. No. 2 McKey defeated Martina Goldtheate (6-3, 6-0). McMiller at court No. 3 defeated Kiamesha Wilson (6-0, 6-2) as Benson at court No. 4 defeated Martina Fair (6-0, 6-1) and Baker at court No. 5 swept Charmaine Helms (6-0, 6-0). Going into the match at court No. 6, TSU ran out of players and Samford's Katie Crawford won by default.
On the men's side, Samford (9-5, 3-0 OVC) gained the doubles point after sweeping Tennessee State, 3-0. At No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, Samford's James Bryce /Johnny Griffee and Stuart Misner / John Crist defeated TSU, 8-0 each. At court No. 2 Bradley Weaver and Joey Jenson brought another win home for the Bulldogs as they defeated TSU's Vaughn Evans/La Darnell Collier, 8-2.
In singles, the Bulldogs finished with all six wins against TSU to take the match. Starting the wins for the Bulldogs, Manuel Miletic defeated TSU's James Dickerson (6-1, 6-0) at court No.1. At court No. 2 with Misner, court No. 3 with Renan Silveira, court No. 4 with Griffee, court No. 5 with Weaver and court No. 6 with Hank Grant, all of these Samford players swept their opponent (6-0, 6-0) each.

Women's tennis will play host to OVC-rival SEMO on Sunday, March 13 at 3 p.m., while the on Tuesday, March 15 both men's and women's teams will travel to play OVC-rival Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Ala. Tuesday's match is set for a 1: 30 p.m. start.
