Flagship Radio Station Now Streaming Free Audio Online

March 28, 2005

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford University announced Monday that the school's radio station, 91.1 WVSU-FM, is now available online for free through a live internet audio stream provided by al.com. The station is the flagship of Samford athletics, and all athletics broadcasts aired on 91.1 FM, including game broadcasts and the Samford Sports Weekly coaches' show, can now be heard for free. The URL for the audio is www.al.com/wvsu.

The new internet procedure was spearheaded by WVSU General Manager Andy Parrish, and is effective immediately. The first athletics broadcast on the new internet site will be the Samford baseball game at Auburn on Tuesday, March 29, at 7 p.m. The new audio stream will have better sound quality than other methods of internet streaming, since the feed is taken from an FM tuner instead of over a phone line.

Samford's other vehicles of internet broadcasting will still be available to fans. The Real Networks College Sports Pass and BULLDOGvision, Samford's internet webcast medium, will both still be in service. Games that are broadcast on these services are only available on al.com if the games are also being aired on the radio. A full radio broadcast schedule is available on the Broadcast Information page of Samfordsports.com.

A link to WVSU's page on al.com will soon be available through Samfordsports.com on both the front page and the Broadcast Information page.
