Women's Tennis Suffers Loss To McNeese State, 7-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University women's tennis team (10-5, 4-2 OVC) fell to McNeese State in a non-conference match today (March 28) at the Darwin C. Hardison Tennis Center, located on the campus of Samford University.

The Cowgirls took the doubles point, after winning two of three sets. At court No. 3, Samford's Katie McMiller / Lauren Pitcher won the only doubles match for the Bulldogs against McNeese State's Ursela Dobersek/ Magali Risoleo, 8-5.

McNeese State dominated in singles and took the match, finishing with six out of seven wins. At a non-counted court, Pitcher won the only singles match for the Bulldogs as she defeated Cowgirl Natasha Jongeneel (6-3, 6-1) at court No. 7.

In singles, MSU's Noelia Furno defeated Bulldog Emily White (6-1, 6-4) at court No. 1, while Cowgirl Magali Risoleo won against Samford's Sarah McKey at court No. 2 (6-1, 6-2). At court No. 3, McMiller lost to MSU's Ursela Dobersek (6-4, 6-4), while Cowgirl Madeleine Hakansson defeated Bethany Benson (6-2, 6-3) at court No. 4. At court No. 5, MSU's Ann Grobbelaar won against Bulldog Katie Crawford (6-3, 6-1), while McNeese State's Marina Gordo defeated Samford's Christie Baker (6-4, 6-1) at court No. 6. At court No. 7, Pitcher defeated Cowgirl Natasha Jongeneel (6-3, 6-1).

On Friday, April 1, the women's team will play host to Southern Mississippi, while the men's team will battle OVC-rival Jacksonville State. The women's match will begin at 2 p.m., while the men's match is set for a 2:30 p.m.
