FLORENCE, Ala. -- The Samford women's tennis team (5-3, 1-1 OVC) swept North Alabama, 7-0, while the men's team (7-5, 2-0 OVC) also beat UNA, 6-1 today (March 8), in a non-conference match at the UNA Tennis Complex.
On the women's side in doubles, Emily White teamed up with Sarah McKey, Katie Crawford battled along side Bethany Benson and Christie Baker teamed up with Katie McMiller as the Bulldogs dominated and gained the doubles point by sweeping all three matches.
The Bulldogs took all six matches in singles starting with White winning at court No. 1, Mckey dominating at court No. 2, McMiller capturing the win at court No. 3, Benson taking court No. 4, while Crawford at No. 5 and Baker at No. 6 also finished with a win each.
On the men's side in doubles, at court No. 1 Manuel Miletic / Renan Silveira lost to UNA's Fonseca/ Zuleta, while at No. 2 Stuart Misner / Hank Grant defeated North Alabama's Cayouette/Dutton. To end it all, Samford's James Bryce and Johnny Griffee fought off 10 match points at court No. 3 to secure the doubles point for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs won five out of six singles matches against North Alabama with the only lost at No. 3 with UNA's Vincent Cayouette defeating Silveira in a three-game set (6-3, 3-6, 11-9).
