BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford baseball team will play a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at Austin Peay this weekend. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
Samford enters the game with a record of 6-16 overall and 1-2 in the OVC. Samford lost two of three games against Jacksonville State last weekend. Austin Peay is currently 13-10 overall and 0-3 in conference play after being swept at Morehead State last weekend. Samford and Austin Peay last met in the OVC Tournament last season, with sixth-seeded Samford upsetting top-seeded Austin Peay by a score of 15-3.
Samford is scheduled to start Chandler Tidwell in the first game of the series, Joseph Edens in game two, and Stephen Artz in the third game. Tidwell currently has a record of 1-3 and an ERA of 6.11. Edens has a record of 2-2 and a 4.20 ERA, while Artz is 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA.
Statistically, John Morgan leads the team with a .362 batting average. Justin Worthington and Garrett Rice are tied for the team lead in hits with 24 apiece. Rice leads the team in home runs with four and in RBI with 22. Matt Alling is second in both home runs (three) and RBI (20).
Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1:00 p.m., and Sunday's single game is also scheduled for 1:00 p.m. All three games can be heard worldwide on the internet at www.samfordsports.com.
