BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford baseball team will play host to the 23rd-ranked Auburn Tigers Tuesday night, and the Bulldogs will play at 22nd-ranked Mississippi State Wednesday night.
Samford enters the week with a record of 9-20 overall and 4-5 in the OVC after winning two-of-three games against Southeast Missouri over the weekend. Auburn has a record of 22-13 overall and 6-6 in the SEC, while Mississippi State is now 20-8 overall and 6-5 in the SEC. Auburn and Mississippi State met in a three-game series over the weekend, with MSU taking two-of-three games.
So far this season, Samford is 1-1 against teams from the Southeastern Conference. Samford defeated Auburn, 9-6, on March 29 in Auburn. The Bulldogs then fell to Mississippi State, 14-5, on April 5, in Jackson, Miss.
Statistically, Justin Worthington leads Samford with a .338 batting average. Garrett Rice leads the team in hits with 32. Rice leads the team in home runs with four and in RBI with 25. Matt Alling is second in both home runs (three) and RBI (24).
