BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford baseball team pounded out 19 hits on its way to a 15-2 win over Alabama A&M Tuesday night at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
For Samford (12-23) at the plate, John Morgan went 4-for-6 with two RBI. Justin Worthington, Drew Reagan, Garrett Rice and Matt Alling drove in two runs apiece for the Bulldogs. Scott Fowler picked up the win for Samford. Fowler pitched 4.0 innings, giving up a run on five hits. He struck out three batters and allowed no walks on the night.
Alabama A&M (8-28) was led by Damian Ellison and Arthur Moore, each going 2-for-4 at the plate. Charles Kinder took the loss on the mound. Kinder pitched 2.0 innings, surrendering five runs on six hits.
Samford jumped on top early, plating three runs in the first inning, two in the second and three more in the third to take an 8-0 lead. In the first inning, Rice, Parker Gargis and Trey Moody drove in a run each. Justin Worthington and Rice drove in the runs in the second, while Morgan drove in two runs and Worthington drove in one in the third inning.
After Alabama A&M scored a run in the fourth inning, Samford scored two runs in the fifth inning and four more in sixth to make the score 14-1. Reagan drove in both runs in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Matt Alling drove in two runs, while Daniel Williams and Kyle Krebs drove in a run each.
Each team added a run in the eighth inning to make the final score 15-2.
