Football Has Two Good Workouts On Monday

Aug. 22, 2005

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced twice on Monday at Seibert Stadium. The second workout was held under the lights as the practice was pushed back from its normal start time of 3:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

"The plan was to come out here when it was a little cooler, and give them a little more rest between practices," Samford Head Coach Bill Gray said. "I thought we came out and had some spirited work. We covered some things we had not had a chance to get on film, some two-minute stuff on both sides of the ball.

"We are still trying to solidify our field goal unit," Gray said. "We have some competition in that area. We also had a chance to come out here after a good rain and test this new surface out. We were very pleased with the work we did tonight."

The team's first practice of the day took place at 7:55 a.m. at Seibert Stadium.

"This morning we also had some good work," Gray said. "We went at a high-tempo and I thought our defense got a little tired. As always happens when you get tired you start losing concentration, and we had some mental mistakes that shouldn't happen, but I thought they definitely came back and improved on that this evening. We will have some good film in the morning and will continue to correct mistakes."

Samford will practice once on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are scheduled to hit the field at Seibert Stadium at 3:45 p.m. The team will hold its final two-a-day practices on Wednesday with the first practice beginning at 7:55 a.m., and the second workout scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Samford will hold its final preseason scrimmage Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.
