Football Falls At Baylor, 48-14

WACO, Texas - Samford's Jefferson Adcock threw for a career-high 200 yards, and he tossed two touchdowns, but it was not enough, as the Bulldogs fell, 48-14, at Baylor Saturday night.

Baylor got the scoring started when Ryan Havens connected on a 22-yard field goal with 11:24 to go in the first quarter to give the Bears a 3-0 lead. Baylor struck again with 5:32 to go in the opening period when Shawn Bell hit Paul Mosley for a 14-yard touchdown. Havens' PAT made the score 10-0.

Early in the second quarter, Samford came back to cut the Baylor lead to 10-7. Adcock connected with Ossie Buchannon for a 19-yard touchdown with 14:18 to go before halftime, and Shannon Fleming's PAT cut the Bears' lead to three.

Baylor struck next when Jamaal Harper returned a Samford fumble 29 yards for a touchdown with 10:26 to go in the second quarter. Havens' extra point gave the Bears a 17-7 lead. Baylor added one more score before halftime when Bell hit Dominique Zeigler for a 32-yard touchdown with 53 seconds to play. The PAT pushed the Bears' lead to 24-7. Baylor took the 17-point lead into halftime.

Samford scored first in the second half when Adcock threw a four-yard touchdown pass to David Lee for the Bulldogs' second score of the day with 12:41 remaining in the third quarter. The extra point cut the Baylor lead to 10 at 24-14. Baylor added to its lead when Brandon Whitaker scored on a one-yard run with 4:39 to go in the third quarter. After the PAT, Baylor held a 31-14 lead.

Baylor added 17 points down the stretch in the fourth quarter to make the final score 48-14. The final score came on an 85-yard punt return by Shaun Rochon with 42 seconds remaining in the game.

Samford will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17, when the Bulldogs play at second-ranked Furman. The game is set for a 6:00 p.m. Central Time kickoff from Greenville, S.C.
