BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford University volleyball team lost its first Ohio Valley Conference match of the season on Friday night, when it hosted the Austin Peay Lady Govs.
Samford (3-10, 0-1) went down in three-straight games (26-30, 20-30, 28-30) to the Lady Govs (4-7, 1-0). The Bulldogs are now 2-6 against Austin Peay in the series and 2-3 since joining the OVC.
Samford totaled 44 kills in the match, compared to the Lady Govs 51. The Bulldogs were led by sophomore Angela Dempski's nine kills and attack percentage of .500. Freshman Sara Sears also tallied nine kills, and freshmen Ashley Klare and Jen Powers each added eight. Freshman Jackie Jaszcz totaled 33 assists and Sears and junior Callaway Logan combined for 19 digs.
Kamaria Alexander notched a double-double for Austin Peay, with 10 kills and 12 digs; and, Ashley Genslak added 11 kills to the Lady Govs' campaign.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday when they play host to Tennessee State at 2 p.m. Admission to the match is free. Fans will have an opportunity to win Samford Bulldog t-shirts.
