BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford University volleyball team will face non-conference rival UAB in an intra-city matchup on Tuesday at 7 p.m., as the Blazers travel a few miles south to meet the Bulldogs in Seibert Hall.
"We're excited to have an opportunity to play a local team and we hope to continue our success from this weekend," said Samford head coach Michelle Durban. "We hope to continue to improve from Saturday."
Samford (2-2) is coming off back-to-back wins over Lipscomb and Stetson on Saturday. Samford defeated Lipscomb 3-2 (25-30, 30-22, 31-33, 30-20, 15-10) early Saturday then went on to beat Stetson 3-2 (24-30, 30-27, 30-24, 23-30, 15-13). Freshman Sara Sears had two double-doubles on the day, with 20 kills and 15 digs against Lipscomb and 21 kills and 17 digs against Stetson.
UAB (3-0) defeated Stetson 3-0 on Friday and again on Saturday. The Blazers also defeated Lipscomb 3-1 on Saturday.
In her first season with the Samford, Durban's Bulldogs lost to UAB 3-1 (24-30, 27-30, 30-15, 25-30).
The Blazers are in their first season under co-interim head coaches Allison Magner and Nikola Petrovic. Ivana Bozic leads UAB with 52 kills, averaging 5.2 kills per game. Bozic also leads the team in digs with 41 and digs per game with 4.10.
