MURRAY, Ky. -
The Samford University soccer team will wrap up its current three-match road swing Sunday as the first-place Bulldogs square off against the Murray State Racers at 1 p.m., at Cutchin Field.
Samford (9-3-2, 4-0-2 Ohio Valley Conference) has played 10 of its 14 matches away from home this season.
The Bulldogs own a perfect 4-0 record when playing in Birmingham this year and hold a 4-3-2 mark on the road. Samford defeated Arkansas State, 4-0, in its lone neutral site match of the 2006 campaign.
On Friday, the Bulldogs played to a 0-0 draw against Tennessee-Martin and extended their undefeated streak to 12-straight matches versus OVC opponents. Samford outshot Tennessee-Martin, 26-6, with 20 of the shots being on goal.
Murray State (5-7-3, 2-3-2 OVC) heads into Sunday's contest looking to end a three-match winless streak.
Since defeating Tennessee Tech, 1-0, on Oct. 1, the Racers have been shutout by Morehead State, 4-0, tied by Eastern Kentucky, 0-0, and defeated at home against Jacksonville State, 2-1.
In its loss to Jacksonville State on Friday, Murray State surrendered two goals in the final 15 minutes of play.
Samford owns a 4-1-1 all-time record against the Racers. Last season, Murray State knocked off the Bulldogs, 1-0, at home in Birmingham on Oct. 9, 2005. The loss was Samford's last defeat versus an OVC opponent.
In the last meeting between the teams, Samford advanced past the Racers in the semifinal round of the 2005 OVC Tournament. The conference rivals played to a scoreless draw in two overtimes, but the Bulldogs outscored Murray State, 4-3, in the penalty kick shootout.
