BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will play host to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in a first round game in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m.

Samford enters the game with a record of 20-7 overall and 15-5 in the OVC, while Jacksonville State is currently 11-16 overall and 9-11 in conference play. The 20 wins for Samford are the most in the program's history.

Samford swept the regular-season series between the two teams. The Bulldogs won, 78-61, on Dec. 8 in Seibert Hall. On Jan. 7, the Bulldogs won at Jacksonville State by a score of 82-46.

Samford and Jacksonville State will be meeting for the 21st time overall, and the Gamecocks lead the series, 12-8. The teams were in the Atlantic Sun Conference together from the time Samford started its program in 1997-98, until both programs moved into the OVC before the 2003-04 season.

Samford is led in scoring and rebounding by Alex Munday, averaging 14.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Cora Beth Smith, who is second in scoring at 9.0 points per game, leads the team in assists, dishing out 3.7 assists per contest. Taryn Towns is second on the team in rebounding, pulling down 4.0 rebounds per game, and in assists, averaging 2.7 assists per game.

The winners of the first round games will advance to Friday's semifinals in Nashville at the Gaylord Entertainment Center. The semifinal games are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Friday, with Saturday's championship game set for 11:00 a.m. on OVC Television.
