Men's Golf Shows Steady Play In Day One Of Samford Intercollegiate

ONEONTA, Ala. ---- The Samford University men's golf team turned in a solid score following the first round of the Samford Intercollegiate at Limestone Springs Golf Course in Oneonta, Ala. The teams were scheduled to play two rounds on Monday, but an early morning frost postponed the start of the tournament for nearly two hours.

Following the first round of the 54-hole tournament, Samford is tied for fifth, along with Belmont, after scoring a combined 305 on the par 288 course. Currently Tennessee Tech leads the field with an eight-over-par 296. Tennessee State's Phillip Watkins turned in the top individual score, shooting a three-under-par 69.

Reed Davis was the top-finisher for the Bulldogs, tallying a two-over-par 74 to tie for fifth. Ryan Mayberry shot a three-over-par 75 to tie for 13th overall. Bradley Pate is tied for 25th after shooting a 77 (+5) and Andrew Villarreal rounded out the top-four team players for the Bulldogs, with a 79 (+7) to tie for 44th place.

Individually, Clint Calvert shot a 75 (+3) for Samford to tie for 13th. Taylor Dorner is tied for 21st after tallying a 76 (+4), while Bobby Baird is tied for 44th after shooting a 79 (+7).

The Samford Intercollegiate concludes Tuesday. The remainder of round two is set to tee off at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start; and, round three will tee off shortly following the conclusion of round two. Results will be posted at www.samfordsports.com after play has finished.
