Men's Golf Finishes Sixth At Samford Intercollegiate

ONEONTA, Ala. ---- The Samford University men's golf team showed solid play once again on day two of the Samford Intercollegiate at Limestone Springs Golf Club in Oneonta, Ala. The teams played the remainder of the second round before proceeding to round three.

Upon completion of the 54-hole tournament, Samford finished sixth, after scoring a combined 47-over-par 911. Belmont came back from fifth place following the first round to capture the team title, shooting a combined 889 (+25). Troy's Michael McGrady won the individual crown, shooting an impressive 211 (-5).

"I was really pleased with the tournament in general and the golf course," said Samford head coach Woodie Eubanks. "We saw a lot of our conference opponents in this tournament, and got to see what to expect. We have a lot of work before the conference tournament and I know what we need to do to get better. I was really impressed with Reed Davis, he really stepped up. All in all, we have a lot of work to do."

Reed Davis was the top-finisher for the Bulldogs, tallying a 225 (+9) to tie for13th. Ryan Mayberry shot a three-over-par 75 to tie for 13th overall. Andrew Villarreal shot a combined 229 (+13) to tie for 21st. Bradley Pate and Ryan Mayberry rounded out the top four for the Bulldogs, as both tied for 25th, shooting a combined 230 (+14).

Tennessee Tech was the highest finisher from the Ohio Valley Conference, finishing third overall, with a score 892 (+28). Samford was a mere two strokes back from fourth-place finisher, Murray State, who shot a 909 (+45). Tennessee-Martin finished seventh, with a 921 (+57), Tennessee State finished eighth with a 929 (+65) and Eastern Kentucky finished ninth with a 931 (+67).

The Samford University men's golf team returns to action when they head to Jacksonville, Ala., for the Jacksonville State Invitational on March 20-21.
