Men's Tennis Falls To Southern Miss

March 25, 2006

BROOKHAVEN, Miss. ---- The Samford University men's tennis team fell to non-conference rival Southern Miss on Saturday in Brookhaven Mississippi.

The Bulldogs (7-5, 4-1 OVC) lost the match, 6-1, to the Golden Eagles (4-10, 1-2 C-USA). Samford was able to win the doubles point, claiming two of the three doubles mathes, but Southern Miss won all six singles points.

"After a week off, we weren't really hitting the ball that well, but we made up for that with our complete lack of heart or guts," said Samford head coach Kemper Baker.

In doubles play Renan Silveira and Bradley Weaver defeated Domagoj Anic and Reid Bourgeois, 85, on the No. 1 court. Stuart Misner and Hank Grant won at No. 2 doubles, defeating Tommy Maestri and Andrew Poole, 8-6.

The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday, when they take on Alcorn State at 2 p.m., in Brookhaven, Miss.
